Urban Roots Farm is a Certified Naturally Grown four season urban vegetable farm located in downtown Springfield Missouri. Owners Adam and Melissa Millsap have worked this 1.7 acre farm since 2010 growing vegetables year round using natural and sustainable techniques. Today the farm is owned by Melissa and Adam, and operated by Alyssa Highes whom worked with the Millsaps for 5 years prior to taking over management. The farm is high density production with food harvested weekly, year round. Serving a 75 member CSA, 5 restaurants, and a farmstand. Everything from veggies, chicken, bees, flowers and retail plant sales. There is a 8 unit apartment complex on the farm which houses 2 Air bnb rentals. A residential apprenticeship program and many community outreach programs are carried out at the farm.
Adam and Melissa found great pride raising their family on this urban farm as the community raised Melissa and Adam. This was Springfield’s first urban farm that was placed inside an existing neighborhood with existing ordinances. It was a labor of love to work with city officials, local groups, neighbors, residents and schools to make Urban Ag legal in this city. Today Springfield stands behind Farmers Markets, Community Gardens, Urban Farms, Chickens, Bees and inherited high tunnel permits within the city. Urban Roots Farm
