Red Barn Farm is hiring! We’re looking to fill full-time and part-time farmer positions and are seeking unpaid interns who want to gain valuable urban farming experience. Rather you have worked on a farm, owned a farm or are just an avid gardener, we would like to hear from you. Our farm is in the construction phase, so it is a perfect time to get in on the ground level to gain a plethora of knowledge and experience what it takes to start a farm.

POSITIONS AVAILABLE

Part Time:  20 - 30 hours a week some evenings and a few Saturdays a month

Full Time: 40+ hours a week, few Saturdays a month and random evenings

This position requires a self-starter, knowledge seeking, individual that loves working in all weather conditions. This is a year-round farming position, meaning we work in the rain, heat and snow. Red Barn is a Certified Naturally Grown Farm with a focus on water and soil conservation. This position will be assisting in construction, planting, harvesting, selling, educating, and continually learning. As this is a startup farm there are multiple construction projects, being willing to learn and ask questions is highly encouraged.

DAILY TASKS MAY INCLUDE:

  • Maintain Quality control and food safety plans

  • Post harvest processing of crops

  • Implements pest management plan for crops

  • Helps manage farm interns, volunteers and skilled labor

  • Assists with marketing and distribution of produce

  • Recording of field data

  • Participates in educational (intern/apprenticeship/tours) planning

  • Assists with equipment maintenance

  • Be comfortable operating all equipment

  • Oversees carrying out of field planting schedule

  • Available for retail sales during Market season

  • Work with the farm manager to set annual goals

  • Help implement and follow Lean Farming principles (return to zero)

  • Assist with crop planning and seeding calendar as well as seed orders

  • Other duties as assigned

  • Assist with tours, summer camps and farm events

  • Manage livestock operations
